General snus

A taste that is recognized

General has a taste that many snusers recognize. The taste is spicy, with some peppery and touch of bergamot. Made of a mixture of twenty two different kinds of tobacco.

Four years searching for perfection

General was launched in 1866, but it could be said that the story began already four years
earlier. Snuff manufacturer Johan A Boman was aiming to produce what he called “the perfect snus” and for four years the development work continued. He traveled all over the world hoping to find the best tobacco magazines and started experimenting with different combinations. The result eventually became a tobacco mixture of 22 different tobacco grades, with a drop of bergamot oil added.

Taste

General Tobacco Mix with tones of tea, hay and leather gives a snuff with a spicy tobacco flavor basically. What gives General its definite character is a drop of bergamot oil – the bergamot is a citrus fruit that is grown mainly in Italy and northern Africa. Following Boman’s instructions, only the finest parts of the tobacco plant are used, the stalk is avoided and the tobacco is dried in direct sunlight.

Development

Even today, only a few people know Boman’s basic recipe from 1866. With great respect for the legacy, we have developed new products, and today there is a varied range of General products in Sweden and other countries. Our newest interpretation is G.3 – a stronger snus in a narrower prill, developed to drain less and provide an optimized fit under the lip. If you prefer a snus with a clear whiskey flavor, there is also General Mackmyra, flavored with Mackmyras Swedish malt whiskey Svensk Ek.
